Richmond County woman in disbelief over $706,092 jackpot win

Temika Hough of Rockingham sat at home Saturday relaxing and playing Digital Instants when out of nowhere she landed a $706,092 jackpot.

“I was in disbelief,” she said. “I called my dad in shock.”

Hough played for $2 and won the top level ‘Epic jackpot’ in the Bison Bonanza game. The Digital Instant game features a progressive jackpot that can be won any time. The odds of that win are 1 in 15.5 million.

“I was just sitting there thinking, ‘Am I looking at this right,’” Hough recalled.

She claimed her prize Wednesday at lottery headquarters and, after required federal and state tax withholdings, took home $508,469.

“I guess it was my time,” Hough said. “This is a blessing.”

She plans to use her winnings to pay bills and help out her family.

In the Bison Bonanza Digital Instant game, a player can play from 50 cents to $30. After Hough won the jackpot, it restarted at $50,000 and has grown to over $95,000 as of Thursday afternoon.
